Adjudicator Qualifications
9:00AM -11:00AM

All debaters in Year 8 or below (+ coaches of same)

Debaters in Years 12 or below with limited experience / knowledge (+ coaches of same)

Aimed at level of debate expected in Intermediate B and both Junior competitions (which is also requisite knowledge for new, older debaters)
11:00AM - 12:00PM

See a full, uninterrupted debate followed by an adjudicator assessment and feedback session

Open to all attendees - see a debate in action!
12:45PM - 3:00PM

All debaters in Year 11 & 12 (+ coaches of same)

Experienced / confident debaters in Years 9-10 (+ coaches of same)

Aimed at level of debate expected in Intermediate A and both Open competitions.

If you:

Are not a current student OR are a Year 12 student and you COMPLETED adjudicator training in 2022:

You are not required to attend any sessions, HOWEVER you are strongly encouraged to join. We will be using Summer School to clarify and address any discrepancies of knowledge between adjudicators - if you want to be your best this year, we would love to see you there.

*Note: if you were a Year 12 student in 2022 and would like to qualify as a Senior Adjudicator - you must attend the 'Established Debaters' course

Are a Year 11 or 12 student wanting to adjudicate for the first time:

You are required to attend the following sessions:

Emerging Debaters (9:00am-11:00am)
-
Demonstration Debate and Adjudication (11:00am-12:00pm)

This session will include your compulsory assessment

Attendance at these sessions and completion of your compulsory assessment will qualify you as a Junior Adjudicator

You may be assigned to adjudicate Junior B or Junior A debates throughout the season.

Are not a current student and DID NOT COMPLETE adjudicator training in 2022

You are required to attend all sessions

Attendance at these sessions and completion of your compulsory assessment will qualify you as a Senior Adjudicator

You may be assigned to adjudicate any division throughout the season

Please fill out the following link to register your attendance at Bond University on Saturday 18th February. Note: submission of this form confirms that you have registered - you will not receive a confirmation email.

NO SUPERVISION PROVIDED BY GCD. All students MUST be supervised by school staff or parents

LUNCH NOT PROVIDED - you can BYO or purchase from the Lakeside Cafe

Please ensure students bring notetaking material

GCD does not require students to wear their uniforms - if your school has a different policy, please inform your students

If you would like to request a certificate so these courses can be claimed as Compulsory Professional Development hours, please email us at communications@goldcoastdebating.org
Students should bring the following:

Note-taking materials (either a notebook/pen or a digital device)

Uniform (if required by your school only)

Phone/device that can scan QR codes / access the GCD website (please note that we will ask you to silence/turn off your phones during the sessions)

Lunch (will not be provided)

Lots of questions! We want you to get the most out of these sessions as possible :)
All sessions will be held in the Basil Sellers Theatre (Level 3, Building 6). See below for a link to an interactive campus map. There is no need to register car number plates this year - we have approval from Bond University to have guest cars in the carpark on the day:
